To mark the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Kazakhstan, alpinist and cultural figure Alibek Qairbek carried the text of the Constitution to the summit of Island Peak in the Himalayas, at an altitude of 6,180 meters, reports Adyrna national portal, citing Informburo.kz.
This ascent was part of his unique project titled “The Dombra on the World’s Summits.” The initiative is carried out within the framework of the international “Seven Summits of the World” campaign. Its goal is to promote Kazakh culture—especially national music played on the dombra—on the global stage and to have the dombra recognized in the Guinness World Records as a musical instrument that has reached the world’s highest peaks.
The Island Peak expedition lasted 15 days and was organized at the initiative of the alpinist himself. The climb was not only a sporting achievement but also a demonstration of patriotism and civic responsibility.
Alibek Qairbek proposed the idea of carrying the text of the Constitution to a high summit to the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan, which supported the idea and provided the official copy of the Constitution.
Braving extreme altitudes and weather conditions, the alpinist successfully carried the Constitution to one of the Himalayas’ renowned peaks.
“For me, the Constitution is the summit of all laws. It’s not just a document—it is a spiritual foundation and symbol of our unity, rights, and freedoms. When I carried both the Constitution and the dombra, I didn’t feel burdened, but empowered. In the harsh conditions of the expedition, these two symbols gave me motivation and strength. I am proud to have conquered Island Peak with such meaningful symbols of Kazakhstan,” said Alibek Qairbek.
This historic ascent was also marked by a performance of “Älqissa,” a composition by the great Kazakh composer Nurgisa Tlendiev, in honor of his 100th anniversary—at the foot of Mount Everest.
