In the southeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an artisanal copper mine collapsed, killing more than 30 people, Adyrna reports.

Rescue operations are still underway, so the number of victims may rise.

According to Lualaba authorities, the incident was caused by a landslide that occurred after heavy rainfall.

However, AP News presents another version.

“During a clash between security guards and miners, shots were fired, causing people to panic and run toward a bridge. The bridge collapsed, leading to additional cave-ins at the mine,” the outlet reports.
