Lithuania was the first member of the European Union to stop importing natural gas from Russia and cut off gas imports. This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Energy, the national portal Adyrna reported.

From now on, Lithuania will receive all its gas needs through the terminal in Klaipeda. Three times a month, a large amount of "blue fuel" enters the terminal, which should be enough for the needs of the country. The Ministry of Energy writes that if necessary, the gas can be delivered to Lithuania via a gas connection with Latvia, and from May 1 it can be imported through Poland.

Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivis sees this as a turning point in the history of Lithuania's energy independence.

"We have become the first EU country to achieve independence from Gazprom's suppliers by abandoning Russian gas, and this is the result of many years of consistent energy policy and timely infrastructure decisions," Crawis said.
