Marat Zhylanbayev, a marathon runner and the chairman of the unregistered opposition party "Alga, Kazakhstan", was arrested in Astana, the correspondent of "Adyrna" reported.
He is suspected of engaging in the activities specified in Article 405 ("participation in the work of an organization prohibited by the court") and Article 258 ("financing of terrorist or extremist activity") of the Criminal Code.
"On May 25, 2023, the specialized interdistrict investigative court of the city of Astana sanctioned the preventive measure in the form of guarding the suspect Marat Zhylanbaev for a period of 2 months," the message says.
Before that, Zhylanbayev was arrested for 20 days at the beginning of May. On May 23, he was taken from the detention center to the police.
It should be noted that Marat Zhylanbaev became famous by running alone across the three largest deserts in the world within a year and a half. He is the only person in the world who has achieved such success. Also, the athlete entered the Guinness Book of Records seven times.
