During the briefing in the government, the Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, Kanat Sharlapaev, answered the questions related to the return of ArcelorMittal Temirtau to the state ownership, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.
The Minister noted that the Government has been negotiating with the company for a long time.
"We signed preliminary documents on October 22. As you know, "ArcelorMittal Temirta" confirmed the information that the signing ceremony took place before the tragedy. It is not correct to say that the negotiations were conducted quickly. "I will repeat that preliminary agreements were made on October 22," he said.
According to experts, Lakshmi Mittal can appeal to international courts against Kazakhstan.
"In this case, we are conducting detailed legal work. To protect Kazakhstan from further lawsuits after this investor leaves the shareholders," said Sharlapaev.
The minister also announced that the name of the company may change.
"The decision has not been made yet. But we cannot use the name "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" due to the exit of the investor from the shareholders of the Kazakhstan enterprise. Here, it will be important to take into account the opinion of employees," he said.
