Almaty police is looking for people spreading false information about the earthquake, the national portal "Adyrna" reports.
Law enforcement agencies said last night they were identifying the perpetrators of the fake news that caused unwarranted panic and fear in the community.

"Criminal liability is provided for spreading false information," warns the police department.

Article 274 of the Criminal Code "Dissemination of visible false information using the mass media, telecommunication networks and online platforms" is punishable by a fine of 3 thousand MEC (11 million tenge) or correctional work in the same amount, or public imprisonment for a period of up to eight hundred hours. labor or imprisonment for up to three years. Before that, law enforcement officers urged citizens to trust information only from official sources.

It should be noted that a fake message about the collapse of two apartment buildings on Al-Farabi avenue was spread in the chats. However, the Emergency Service denied the information, saying that there were no casualties or damage.

Also, the most common message in the chats of Almaty residents was the audio of an unknown man saying that there will be another earthquake at five in the morning. However, the head of the Department of Emergency Situations, Nurlan Atygayev, assured that the information about the devastating earthquake was false.

In addition, false information about the destruction of dormitories #6 and #8 of KazNU has already spread. However, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education denied this information.
