The first-ever Sinology Forum in Central Asia was held in Almaty

On May 21, the first Sinology Forum in Central Asia was held in Almaty, reports an Adyrna correspondent. The event focused on strengthening dialogue between China and the Central Asian countries, as well as discussing the development trends and future of Sinology in the region. In a congratulatory letter addressed to the forum, Senate Chairman Maulen Ashimbayev emphasized that China is a key partner for Kazakhstan in Central Asia. He noted that bilateral relations between the two countries are currently reaching a new qualitative level. China’s Consul General in Almaty, Jiang Wei, highlighted the expansion of bilateral relations during the forum. “China and Kazakhstan are friendly neighbors and reliable partners. Our humanitarian cooperation is actively developing. There is a growing interest among Kazakh youth in studying in China, and interest in the Chinese language in Kazakhstan is also steadily increasing,” he said. Dinara Dauen, Chair of the Sinologists’ Association in Almaty, stressed the importance of mutual understanding to deepen and enrich interactions between China and Central Asia. The forum was attended by sinologists, scholars, and experts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, as well as representatives from Chinese universities and research centers. Participants discussed the current state and future prospects of Sinology in Central Asia, the role of Sinology in China’s cooperation with the region, the teaching and learning of the Chinese language, and the development of Chinese language and literature in the region. The forum marked an important step toward strengthening scientific and cultural ties between China and the Central Asian countries.
