This was stated by the Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balayeva, in the corridors of Akorda, according to Adyrna national portal referencing Orda.kz.
“There is no separate law. This issue is being considered in the draft law of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It includes a proposal to ban wearing the niqab for security reasons. It is currently being discussed in the Mazhilis.
As far as I know, the first reading will take place soon,” said Aida Balayeva at Akorda.
The issue of wearing religious clothing in public places has been discussed in Kazakhstan for several years.
In March, in Atyrau, girls wearing niqabs were taken to the police after taking photos with Arabic writing on the Kazakh flag.
