280 people rescued: Passenger ferry catches fire in Indonesia

On July 20, a fire broke out on a passenger ferry near Sulawesi Island in Indonesia, reports Adyrna national portal.

According to the Associated Press, some passengers jumped directly into the water to escape the flames.

The KM Barcelona 5 ferry was traveling from the Talaud Islands district to the port of Manado in Indonesia. Local media reported that there were more than 200 passengers on board when the fire started.

At least five people, including a pregnant woman, died in the incident. Over 280 people were evacuated.

Three navy vessels and local fishermen took part in the rescue operation, transporting passengers to nearby islands.

The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.
