At the 32nd Summer World Universiade taking place in Germany, the Kazakhstan team has won its first gold medal, reports “Adyrna” national portal.
The gold was claimed by taekwondo athlete Samirkhon Ababakirov. Competing in the under 63 kg weight category, he faced Turkey’s Omer Faruk Dayioglu in the final and secured victory in both rounds (12:11, 11:3), winning the match 2:0. This triumph earned Ababakirov the gold medal in the competition.
This is Kazakhstan’s sixth medal in taekwondo at Universiade 2025. Previously, Damir Shulenov, Tamirlan Tileules, Batyrkhan Toleugali, Beibarys Kablan, and Nodira Akhmedova each won bronze medals.
Samirkhon Ababakirov had five matches during the tournament and won all of them.
A total of 76 athletes from Kazakhstan are participating in the Summer Universiade, competing across 12 sports. The Universiade is being held in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region from July 16 to 27.
