A citizen suspected of propagating terrorist ideas was arrested in the West Kazakhstan region, reported the national portal "Adyrna" referring to the press service of the National Security Committee (NSC).
"On May 22, 2024, the National Security Committee, with the agreement of the prosecutor's office and with the help of the police, detained a resident of the West Kazakhstan region. He is suspected of promoting terrorism. In the course of the investigation, evidence was taken," said the message issued on Thursday.
Pre-trial investigations are being carried out under Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, part 2 (propaganda of terrorism or public invitation to commit an act of terrorism).
"The arrested citizen was previously convicted of a simple felony," the National Security Committee added.
