Mikhail Kavelashvili has officially assumed office as the President of Georgia, reports the national portal Adyrna. The inauguration ceremony took place at the country’s parliament building and was broadcast live on the legislative body’s website. Kavelashvili took the solemn oath, after which the national anthem of Georgia was performed. It is noteworthy that previously, President Salome Zourabichvili had announced she would leave the presidential palace and join a protest movement. “President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, joined the ‘Chain of Unity’ protest in Tbilisi, which involved thousands of participants. The protest was organized to oppose the government’s decision to delay EU membership negotiations until 2028. The protest included members of opposition parties, students, and cultural figures. In major cities across Georgia, protesters formed chains along rivers and bridges, partially halting traffic,” reported Euronews.com.
