Due to the sharp escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan, India may carry out a military strike against Pakistan within the next 24 to 36 hours. This was stated by Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, according to the national portal “Adyrna,” citing the RIA Novosti news agency.
According to Tarar, India is using the terrorist attack in Pahalgam as a pretext. The minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Pakistan has credible information that India is planning a military strike within the next 24–36 hours.”
He warned that any act of aggression would be met with a harsh response from Islamabad.
Additionally, Pakistani Senator Sehar Kamran stated that the escalating water dispute between the two countries could lead to a nuclear war. She said that India’s decision to halt the flow of water from the Indus River poses a direct threat to Pakistan’s vital interests.
“As both countries are nuclear-armed rivals, the risks involved in this conflict are extremely high. A water-related dispute could escalate into nuclear war,” Kamran said.
She noted that the international agreement on the Indus River, signed in 1960, has withstood four wars and several diplomatic crises. However, any attempt by India to terminate or violate this agreement would be seen as a blatant breach of international law and a direct threat to Pakistan’s survival.
Kamran emphasized that this crisis is a serious threat to peace and stability in the region and called on both countries to engage in urgent dialogue.
It is worth noting that on April 22, a terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, located in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region. Armed assailants opened fire on tourists riding horses in the Baisaran Valley, resulting in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. Following this attack, India has taken several strong measures against Pakistan. Specifically, the Indian government expelled Pakistani military attachés from the country, terminated a bilateral agreement on the Indus River’s water resources that had been in place for over 60 years, and immediately shut down the main border crossing with Pakistan — the Attari checkpoint.
