U.S. President Donald Trump declared May 8 as Victory Day in World War II. He announced this on his Truth Social page, according to the national portal “Adyrna.”

In his post, Trump stated that the U.S. contributed significantly more during the war compared to other countries.

“Many of our allies and friends commemorate May 8 as Victory Day. However, it was precisely we — the United States of America — who contributed far more to the victory in World War II than any other country. It’s not even comparable. Therefore, I declare May 8 as Victory Day in World War II. And November 11 will be Victory Day in World War I,” Trump said.

Trump emphasized that the U.S. won both the First and Second World Wars.

“We won both wars. No one could match our strength, courage, and military skill. But now, we don’t celebrate anything, because we no longer have such leaders. The time has come — it’s time to celebrate our victories again!” Trump added.

It should be noted that in the U.S., the official end of World War II is marked on September 2 — the date of Japan’s surrender. In Europe, Victory Day is celebrated on May 8 — the day Nazi Germany capitulated. In Soviet and post-Soviet countries, Victory Day is observed on May 9.
