A series of powerful earthquakes have been recorded in the Drake Passage area, near the coasts of Chile and Argentina, reports the “Adyrna” national portal, citing the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
The first underground tremor occurred early Friday morning with a magnitude of 7.4, prompting a tsunami warning. Residents were urgently evacuated from the coast.
Seismologists reported that 13 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 5.0 to 6.4 occurred throughout the day. The epicenter of all the earthquakes was located at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric stated that all necessary resources have been mobilized in response to the situation.
