Ukrainian military personnel will take part in the 80th anniversary Victory in Europe Day parade, according to Adyrna national portal citing DW.
Representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will participate in the military parade in London on May 8, marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine will join the commemorative parade marking 80 years since Victory in Europe. Their presence reminds us that Ukraine is now on the front line of the fight for freedom,” the UK Ministry of Defence wrote on social media on May 3.
Around 1,000 military personnel from the United Kingdom are expected to take part in the event, including members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army, and Royal Air Force.
The Ministry noted that Ukraine’s participation symbolizes global support for the country and highlights the ongoing resistance against Russia’s unprovoked and illegal invasion.
Ukrainian soldiers participating in Operation Interflex—a UK-led training program—will also join the parade. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, over 54,000 Ukrainian troops have been trained under this program by the UK and its allies.
The exact number of Ukrainian personnel attending the London parade has not yet been disclosed.
Victory in Europe Day is celebrated annually on May 8 to commemorate the Allies’ acceptance of Nazi Germany’s surrender in 1945. Russia, Belarus, and some former Soviet countries mark the occasion on May 9.
