China has launched the world’s largest car carrier ship in terms of cargo capacity, named “Anji Ansheng,” which departed from Shanghai Port on Thursday evening for its maiden voyage. According to the national portal “Adyrna,” citing Xinhua News Agency, it will transport approximately 7,000 China-made vehicles to Europe.
The departure of this car carrier from Shanghai marks a new chapter for Chinese shipbuilding, as “Anji Ansheng” has surpassed the “Shenzhen” ship — built just weeks ago by Chinese auto giant BYD — in terms of cargo capacity. Until recently, “Shenzhen” held the title of the world’s largest car carrier.
“The fact that this record has been broken in less than a month not only demonstrates the rapid development of China’s mid- and high-tech industries, but also the resilience and vitality of China’s foreign trade despite global challenges,” noted Gao Yuning, Deputy Director of the School of Public Administration at Tsinghua University.
According to Zhuang Jinxiong, CEO of SAIC Anji Logistics Co., Ltd., the “Anji Ansheng” is 228 meters long and 37.8 meters wide, with a capacity of 9,500 standard vehicle slots.
The ship integrates advanced energy-saving technologies and intelligent low-carbon systems, bringing it to world-class levels of energy efficiency. Additionally, it is designed to accommodate methanol fuel, laying the foundation for the vessel’s carbon neutrality in the future.
