The most powerful computer in Central Asia has been delivered to Kazakhstan, according to the national portal Adyrna, citing the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
Its performance is estimated at nearly two exaflops. One exaflop means the computer can perform a quintillion (a number with 18 zeros) operations per second.
“This is the first supercomputing cluster in the Central Asian region. It is built on the latest NVIDIA H200 graphic chips, designed for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing,” the ministry stated.
According to the ministry, the supercomputer will be housed in the new data center of the Ministry of Digital Development. It will be available for use by AI startups, universities, research centers, and IT companies in the business sector.
As part of this project, Kazakhstan has, for the first time, applied a mechanism that exempts high-tech equipment from customs duties and VAT.
The specific company that delivered the supercomputer has not been disclosed. However, during a recent visit to Kazakhstan by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, an office of Presight (part of G42) was opened in Astana, and an agreement was signed to establish a supercomputing cluster.
