On May 24, President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree relieving Erbolat Dosaev from his position as Mayor of Almaty, reports the national portal “Adyrna.”
“By the decree of the Head of State, Erbolat Askarbekuly Dosaev has been dismissed from the post of Mayor of Almaty,” read the official statement published on Akorda’s Telegram channel.
Erbolat Dosaev had held this position since January 31, 2022.
He was born on May 21, 1970, in Almaty. He graduated from the Almaty Institute of Energy and the Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
In 1997, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Board of “Turan Alem Bank” and Chairman of the Board of “ATF Bank.” In 1998, he was appointed advisor to the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
In the same year, he became Vice Minister of Energy, Industry and Trade, and two years later, Vice Minister of Finance. In 2001, he became Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of Kazakhstan.
From 2001 to 2003, he served as Chairman of the Agency for Natural Monopolies, Protection of Competition and Support for Small Business. From 2003 to 2004, he was the Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan and also served as a member of the Board of the National Bank and as a governor for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Kazakhstan.
From 2004 to 2006, he served as Minister of Healthcare of Kazakhstan.
Between 2006 and 2012, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kazinvestbank JSC. Starting September 25, 2012, he served as Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
On January 16, 2013, he was appointed Minister of Economy and Budget Planning, and on August 6, 2014, by Presidential Decree No. 880, he became the Minister of National Economy.
From May 2016 to August 2017, he served as Chairman of the Management Board of “Baiterek” National Managing Holding JSC.
From August 2017 to February 2019, he held the post of Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
From February 25, 2019, to January 2022, he served as Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan.
It is also worth noting that on May 23, it was announced that a meeting of the VIII convocation of the Almaty City Maslikhat (City Council) would take place, with the agenda including the approval of a new mayoral candidate.
