In Colombia’s Quindío department, a bus carrying students crashed on the Helicoidal Bridge, killing at least 11 people and injuring several others, reports the national portal Adyrna, citing RIA Novosti.
According to local media, there were 26 people on the bus in total—23 of them were students, and 3 were faculty members from the engineering department. The passengers were representatives of Humboldt University, returning from a field internship.
Preliminary police reports suggest the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a mechanical failure. The bus collided with the bridge barrier, and several passengers were thrown out through the windows.
The injured were urgently transported to nearby hospitals.
The identities of the 11 deceased have been confirmed, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
