On the morning of July 9, a freight train carrying 50 standard containers of solar panels (photovoltaic modules) with a total weight of 1,159 tons departed from Jinzhong city in Shanxi Province, northern China, en route to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
According to Xinhua News Agency, citing the press service of Huayuan International Land Port, this shipment marks the launch of rail freight transport via the Trans-Caspian corridor from China to Europe.
The train departed from the “Zhongding” logistics hub and will pass through Kazakhstan, arriving at the port
According to the company, the Trans-Caspian route significantly reduces delivery time compared to traditional routes. In the future, it is expected to become a convenient path for transporting solar panels to South Caucasus countries, Turkey, and Eastern Europe.
Currently, Huayuan International Land Port operates regular freight services along 23 rail routes connecting China with Europe and Central Asia. These routes link Shanxi Province with 48 cities across 16 countries worldwide.
