A traffic jam of heavy freight trucks has formed at the “Zhaisan” border checkpoint between Kazakhstan and Russia, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Adyrna reports.

The congestion was caused by the introduction of a new regulation requiring mandatory use of QR codes for visa-free border crossing.

“A buildup of heavy freight vehicles has been reported at the ‘Zhaisan’ border checkpoint in the Märtök district. Rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and servicemen from military unit No. 20982 were immediately dispatched to the scene,” the statement said.

Emergency workers are providing immediate assistance to drivers, including hot meals, drinking water, medical aid, sanitation checks, and informational support.

The Ministry confirmed that the situation is under constant control. All necessary measures are being taken promptly to assist drivers and stabilize the situation.

It is worth noting that as of June 30, Russia introduced mandatory online registration for citizens of CIS countries entering under a visa-free regime. Kazakh citizens, including children over six, must register in the RuID application and submit their fingerprints at least 72 hours before crossing the border.
