Kazakhstani weightlifter Alikhan Askerbay won a gold medal at the Asian Championships among juniors and youth, which is currently taking place in Astana. According to the National Olympic Committee, who reported the news on July 7, the athlete also set three Asian records and broke three world records.
In the total of the snatch and clean & jerk, Askerbay lifted 310 kg (141+169), securing first place in the junior competition.
Additionally, he earned a bronze medal in the youth category of the Asian Championships.
For reference, earlier, Ksenia Prozorova had already brought two medals to Kazakhstan’s tally. She took first place in the U17 category and won a silver medal among athletes under 20.
