Saudi Arabia is discussing with China the possibility of selling oil in yuan, not dollars, according to the national portal Adyrna.

The Wall Street Journal writes that the talks between the two countries were caused by disagreements between Riyadh and Washington. SA is dissatisfied with the US involvement in the civil war in Yemen and their negotiations on a nuclear deal with Iran. In addition, Saudi officials last year expressed frustration with the rapid withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

However, friendly relations between Saudi Arabia and China are strong. Beijing helped the kingdom build its own ballistic missiles and began investing in projects of Saudi Arabia's Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

At present, most Riyadh oil sales are 80% in dollars.

It was noted that the sale of oil to China in yuan could weaken the dollar's position in world oil markets, as well as support the Chinese currency.
