United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was shocked by the attack on two schools of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Gaza Strip (UNRWA) in the last 24 hours, the national portal "Adyrna" reported. Guterres recalled that thousands of Palestinians have taken refuge in UN facilities: "Our facilities are inviolable, I can confirm that," he said The Secretary-General noted that dozens of people, including children and women, were killed and injured in UN facilities. "Every day, war causes unnecessary casualties among civilians, including women and children. It has to stop now," Guterres said. He reiterated his call for a humanitarian settlement in the Palestinian exclave. Guterres also thanked the Government of Qatar for mediation initiatives.
