On the last day of work of the UNESCO General Conference, Kazakhstan was elected a member of the World Heritage Committee for 2023-2027. The State Counselor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Karin said about this, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.

118 countries supported Kazakhstan's candidacy. The election of our country as a member of the World Heritage Committee shows that the international community recognizes our active work in preserving our unique cultural and natural heritage.
Also, before that, a decision was made to give UNESCO's office in Almaty the status of a multi-sectoral regional office (Bureau) that includes the states of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran, apart from the states of Central Asia, said Karin.

It should be noted that the World Heritage Committee, which includes 21 countries, is a very important and prestigious governing body of UNESCO. This Committee has the exclusive right to include and remove sites from the World Heritage List.
