Tuition fees at higher education institutions in Kazakhstan have increased significantly, reports the Adyrna National Portal.
This was reported with reference to data from the Bureau of National Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the data, the cost of studying at universities has increased by an average of 11% over the past year. Experts identify inflationary processes as the main reason for this rise.
The highest increase by region was recorded in Atyrau Region — 36.3%. Significant increases were also observed in Turkistan Region (19.6%), Mangystau Region (15.4%), the city of Shymkent (15.2%), and Astana (15%).
The lowest increase was seen in Kostanay Region (1.8%), Aktobe Region (5%), and Ulytau Region (5.9%). In Almaty, tuition fees rose by 9.4%، while in Almaty Region prices remained unchanged.
According to the analysis, at the beginning of the 2025–2026 academic year, tuition fees at universities in Astana and Almaty were significantly higher compared to other regions. For example, in Almaty, annual tuition ranges from 500,000 to 7.6 million tenge. This difference depends on the university’s reputation, the demand for the specialty, and other factors.
In regional universities, annual tuition fees range from approximately 450,000 to 2.4 million tenge.
