Media manager Askar Kantarbayev suggested renaming the Astana Square in Almaty as the square named after the prominent Kazakh statesman Dinmukhamed Kunayev.
“Over the years, while walking with my family on Astana Square, known as the Old Square, I have repeatedly thought that this place should be named in accordance with the spirit and atmosphere of our beloved city. As you know, for a long time the Central Government of Kazakhstan was located on the old square in Almaty. The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan - Dinmukhamed Kunayev worked there. "I believe that Astana Square should be named in his honor," he wrote on his Facebook page.
