The French prosecutor’s office has officially charged two of the five people arrested in connection with the large-scale theft at the Louvre Museum. They are suspected of involvement in stealing jewelry worth $102 million, Reuters reported, as cited by Adyrna.

According to the Paris court, the suspects are a man and a woman, while the other three were released after the necessary investigative procedures.

Investigation materials reveal that the 37-year-old man, who had previously been prosecuted for theft multiple times, is accused of organizing the crime and being part of a criminal group. The 38-year-old woman is being investigated as his accomplice and partner in the case.

These charges follow the arrests of two other suspects on October 25, who were formally charged on October 29. One is a 34-year-old Algerian citizen, whose DNA was found on a scooter used during the escape, and the other is a 39-year-old taxi driver from the suburbs of Paris.

Thus, the total number of people formally charged in the Louvre theft case has reached four. Investigators believe the crime may have been carried out by a well-organized international criminal group operating in several countries.
