Bektau-Ata gorge is under threat. After all, Almaty-based Daneker-Zhol LLP plans to use more than 500 tons of explosives to extract 1.5 million tons of rock from the mountain massif for road construction in 2022-2023. As a result, there will be a quarry with an area of more than 8 hectares, the national portal "Adyrna" reports with reference to turkystan.kz.
It's worth noting that Bektau-Ata is located 70 km north of Balkhash town in Aktogay district of Karaganda region. The stone is planned to be mined near the Bektau-Ata State Natural Zoological Reserve. This will cause great damage to its ecosystems and tourist attractions.
In this regard, on February 21 at 16:00 a public hearing will be held on the ZOOM platform to consider the project "Mining plan of the Bektau igneous rock deposit in Aktogay district of Karaganda region" with the materials of the EIA.
