A farewell ceremony for Talgat Musabayev is taking place in Almaty

On August 6, a farewell ceremony for cosmonaut and national hero Talgat Musabayev is taking place at the Officers’ House in Almaty, according to Adyrna national portal citing zakon.kz. The ceremony began at 9:00 AM.

Alongside Musabayev’s family and loved ones, colleagues, friends, public and state figures, as well as representatives of the space industry gathered near the Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen in Almaty. Russian cosmonaut and master of aviation sports Sergey Krikalev flew in specially for the event. He shared kind words about his colleague and proudly recalled working alongside him.

Renowned Kazakhstani cosmonauts Toktar Aubakirov and Aidyn Aimbetov also attended the farewell ceremony. An honorary guard was stationed in the foyer as a mark of respect for Musabayev.

Prominent public and political figures were also present at the ceremony, including Member of Parliament Azat Peruashev, Chairman of the Maslikhat Meirzhan Otynshiyev, academic Rahman Alshanov, retired Lieutenant General Beksultan Sarsekov, and others. All paid tribute to the national hero, highlighting his contributions to the country’s development and laying flowers in his honor.

Following the farewell, a mourning rally will be held in the Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen. Talgat Musabayev will then be laid to rest at the Kensai Cemetery in Almaty.

Talgat Amangeldyuly Musabayev passed away on August 4, 2025, shortly before his 75th birthday. He was born on January 7, 1951, in the village of Fabrichnoye, Zhambyl district, Almaty region. As a national hero of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Lieutenant General of Aviation, he left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.

He flew into space three times, spending a total of 341 days, 9 hours, and 46 minutes in orbit. In addition, he performed eight spacewalks, with a total duration of 43 hours and 46 minutes.
