The head of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smayilov, answered the parliamentary question of the senator Dana Nurzhigit about the retirement age of women.

"Since 2018, the retirement age of women has been increasing by 6 months every year. This process will be implemented step by step over 10 years. Unification of the retirement age was introduced not to save budget funds, but to ensure a decent amount of pension. As you know, Kazakhstanis receive basic and solidarity pensions from the budget. Mutual pension is calculated on the basis of 2 years of service before 1998 and the last 3 years of income. As a result, this type of payment will decrease every year, and the share of the accumulative pension will increase. Therefore, lowering the pension age will lead to a decrease in the amount of pension deposits and a sharp reduction in payments from this system," explains the Prime Minister.
