More than 311 thousand victims of political persecution were acquitted in Kazakhstan

The state commission for full acquittal of victims of political persecution has completed its work. Since November 2020, more than 2.6 million documents and materials have been declassified, more than 311 thousand victims of political persecution have been fully exonerated. Akorda announced this, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.

"Already, more than 2.6 million documents and materials have been declassified. As a result of the work of the state commission, more than 311 thousand victims of political persecution were acquitted within the framework of the current legislation. A 72-volume set of materials of the State Commission has been prepared for publication in order to scientifically document the results of research works within one series," says Akorda's website.

The Commission was established by the Decree of the Head of State dated November 24, 2020. 425 scientists, researchers and experts participated in the work of acquitting the victims of political persecution in the 20s-50s of the XX century. More than 260 of them were involved in regional commissions. They worked in 60 state and departmental archives across the republic.

In the future, research on the issues of political persecution will be carried out by the Center for the Research of Materials of Political Persecution of the 20th Century, established in 2021.

About 688,000 cases and 48,000 registration cards of persecuted persons were transferred from special state archives to the center within two years.

These funds will be available to researchers and the public.
