Ramazan Butantaev, a 10th-grade student from an IT lyceum in the Mangystau region, has been named the top linguist in the Asia-Pacific region.
This was reported on May 5 by the press service of the Ministry of Education, according to “Adyrna.”
Nearly 500 students from countries such as China, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Iran, Korea, Singapore, and Thailand participated in the APLO-2025 Olympiad.
“The Kazakhstani team achieved its best result in the history of the Linguistics Olympiad. In total, our students won 5 medals and 3 Certificates of Honor.

• Second place – Samir Sarbasov, 12th grade, Nazarbayev Intellectual School, Astana
• Third place – Timur Kantaev, 11th grade, “Arystan” Specialized School, Almaty
• Third place – Zere Serikova, 11th grade, School No. 9 “Zerde”, Astana
• Third place – Temirlan Seitbattal, 11th grade, BIL (Bilim-Innovation Lyceum), Akmola region
Certificates of Honor were awarded to:
• Islam Sipattalov, 10th grade, BIL, Aktobe
• Shyngys Karasaev, 11th grade, NIS (Nazarbayev Intellectual School), Oral
• Aron Khasanov, 11th grade, BIL, Atyrau,” the statement said.
It should be noted that the Asia Pacific Linguistics Olympiad (APLO) is an international linguistics competition for high school students. It focuses on developing logical thinking, linguistic intuition, and intercultural competence and serves as a gateway to the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL). APLO offers students a great opportunity to test themselves at an international level and gain recognition in academic circles.
