On July 5, 2024, public discussions of plans for the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan were held in Karagandy.
Residents of the city, public figures and environmentalists took part in the public discussions.
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP, the National Nuclear Center and the Institute of Nuclear Physics spoke at the hearings and spoke about the advantages of building a NPP, the safety of modern nuclear power plants, the operating principles and the level of impact of NPPs on the environment and human health.
Deputy Director of the Department of Nuclear Energy and Industry of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gulmira Mursalova noted in her speech that the construction of a NPP in Kazakhstan is a strategically important decision to ensure the country's energy security.
